The battle between Hootsuite, Seesmic and Tweetdeck

During the last three weeks of working through the Career Focus program, one of my biggest tasks has been to find out which social media management tool (SMMT) is really best for County Media. Some of you may know this, but there are quite a few different tools to choose from. Here are my thoughts about three of the most popular – Seesmic, Hootsuite and Tweetdeck.

Seesmic is one of my favorite SMMT’s. It’s easy to use and gives you options to post from 50 of your favorite services like Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter – the most platforms offered from one tool. Future plans for Seesmic include an Ebay stream where you can monitor recent auctions.

Hootsuite is a Canadian company based in Vancouver, BC. This growing company really made their mark in 2010 and is still growing rapidly in 2011. Hootsuite offers the ability to manage platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and WordPress. They also offer multiple accounts (letting you manage more then one twitter account at a time) making it easy for updating. This feature is only available for PRO users however, which comes at the price of $4.99 a month. One really promising feature includes “scheduled” tweeting. It allows you to pre-schedule your tweets to be released any time, day or month. That’s a real key feature for County Media clients.

Tweetdeck is a desktop-based program which, unlike Seesmic and Hootsuite, you download. I haven’t used Tweetdeck for County Media purposes but I am for personal use. This SMMT is very similar to Hootsuite and Seesmic. It offers pop up windows displaying recent tweets. It doesn’t have to be every tweet, you can change the settings to a certain group of people: beneficial if you like keeping up with the conversation all the time.

My choice so far is Hootsuite. Not only does it really benefit County Media, it has cute little owls everywhere displaying happiness.
