Mission Statements

Today in class we are learning about Mission Statements. I am trying to find something new that I haven't learned about it but it pretty much feels like deja vu. We learned all this in Advertising last year so none of it feels new to me, making this course extremely difficult to learn anything new. But I know once we get into it more I will start learning a lot more different things, things from the PR side of the industry rather then just Advertising. Because lets admit it to ourselves. Advertising is very different from PR and there is no real connection with consumers in Advertising. As they say.. Advertising is in and then they are out. There is no in-between.

So in class we were to write a mission statement ourselves about the program. I wrote it specifically about the Loyalist College Public Relations program. Turns out it was supposed to be more about a "self/class" mission statement.

My Mission Statement:
"The Public Relations course at Loyalist College us about passionate students looking to expand their knowledge and creativity, work as a team and learn networking skills. Passion and teamwork is what makes PR what it is."

The Class Mission Statement:
"Achieving knowledge and success in the PR industry by building relationships with integrity, passion, creativity and professionalism."

Both I feel have their special qualities. My mission statement is for the program itself and what students in the course get out of it. If someone was to ask what Loyalist Colleges PR program offers, I think that would be a great statement to share with someone interested. The other statement was created by id say 70% of the student body. But it does reflex the views of likely 98% of the students. Up next we have to write mission statements about ourselves. I don't know how well that will go over considering when it comes to myself I really have a hard time writing, seeing and acknowledging traits within' myself. Once I come up with something I will definitely share it here.
